20 July 2010 SH1 Levin - Waiauti Bridge Restrictions
GHD Ltd have advised they are progressing well with the contruction of a new bridge at Waiauti, some 14km south of Levin. Due to the tight nature of the construction site, work on both the new bridge and work to demolish the old bridge will be occurring at the same time. This will result in pavement and load width restrictions as one lane on each bridge will be used for a period of time and work equipment may be close to the roadway.
Following demolition of half of the bridge, GHD advise that for the next two months the following restrictions are in place: - Northbound vehicles a 4.0m lane width is available - Southbound vehicles a 3.5m lane width is available - The lanes are bounded by Guard rail 1.1m high and concrete barriers 0.850m high.
They expect that most vehicles and loads should be able to make their way through the site, and thank operators for their patience and co-operation in this matter.
15 July 2010 SH2 Matahorua Gorge Closures July/August
The NZ Transport Agency wishes to advise motorists of weekend closures of the State Highway 2 Matahorua Gorge to enable construction of the new gorge bridge to begin.
SH2 through the gorge will be closed between 7am and 6pm during the affected weekends to enable contractors to begin lifting in place the first sections of the new bridge that will replace the existing highway through the gorge. Vehicles will be diverted through Matahorua Road, and drivers should allow extra time for the additional 8km journey.
The closures will take place on the following weekends:
· 17-18 July
· 24-25 July
· 31 July-1 August
This work is weather dependant, and if there are any days lost to poor weather, further closures of the gorge may be required the following weekend of 7-8 August.
HEAVY VEHICLE CONVOY RUNS
For safety reasons, the NZTA has agreed to allow the Road Transport Association and its members to pass through the gorge at set times when lifting operations cease for breaks, instead of trucks having to use the narrow and partially unsealed Matahorua Road diversion route.
The times of these convoy runs will be promptly at 10am, mid-day and 3pm.
The NZTA requests that drivers ensure they arrive at the closure points detailed above in advance of these times. Drivers will be directed to a parking area to wait for the opening times. The road barriers will be removed for a few minutes only to allow all parked trucks past at each opening time.
13 July 2010 SH16: Punganui Bridge Traffic Switch
Fletcher Construction and Brian Perry Civil wish to inform of the upcoming traffic layout switch at Punganui Stream Bridge. As part of the construction sequence the replacement bridge is built in two halves, the first of which will be finished by the end of July. To allow us to continue with the bridge works on the second half of the bridge to be completed by the end of this year, traffic will be shifted from its current path on to the completed half of the new bridge. The traffic will still consist of one lane of traffic at a maximum width of 3.5m being controlled by portable traffic signals, though the running surface should be considerably more comfortable.
Note that at present the lane width is restricted 3.1m only due to the restricted working environment.
6 July 2010 SH6: Resumption of Overnight Closures of Kawarau Falls Bridge
Motorists will have limited overnight access across the single lane Kawarau Falls Bridge on State Highway 6 between Frankton and Kelvin Heights near Queenstown from next Sunday night 11 July 2010.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) says the delays will be for two weeks to allow a continuation of repair works to the bridge that started about a month ago. The partial closures, from Sunday night to Friday mornings, will be between 11 pm and 6am. Traffic will only be allowed across the bridge for a 10 minute period each hour on the hour between these times.
The work should be completed by Monday 26 July 2010.
23 June 2010: Bay of Plenty: SH2 Hauone Bridge Works
Works will be undertaken on this bridge north of Matata on SH2 commencing this Friday. These works are continuing 24/7 for around 2 weeks and there are restrictions for overdimension and overweight loads. The available lane width will be only 3.1 and the handrails are at a height of 800mm.
17 May 2010 SH1: Pukerua Bay Road Work Restrictions Start Tonight
NZTA have advised of lane restrictions on SH1 at Onepu Road starting on Monday 17 May. There will be a Stop/ Go operating from 7:30pm - 5:00am from Sunday night through to Thursday night for a period of 4 weeks. ( 17 May is the first night). As part of the Victoria Park Tunnel project the Project tea, have altered the alignments of certain roads to allow for construction to be undertaken. From 9th May Victoria Street West and Franklin Road will be realigned. Fundamental changes to the roads in this area include:
· Victoria St, Franklin Rd and Union St will form a single intersection at Union St;
· Franklin Rd will traverse under the Viaduct to link to the intersection with Union St;
· No left turn for Heavy Vehicles from Victoria St into Union St / Franklin Rd due to the insufficient turning space, and
· Possible alterations to the heights when travelling underneath the Victoria Park Viaduct.

10 May 2010 SH3 & 4 Various Wanganui Construction Sites
Anzac Parade:
Adjacent to the town bridge. This project is now complete with no major restrictions on width.
Airport Road/ SH3 / SH4 Intersection roundabout.
The roundabout is now having the Airport Rd. side constructed, there is numerous cones and signs in the north bound lane which will only allow approx. 3.5 metre loads through the roundabout. Any loads exceeding 3.5 m. going north will have to use the south bound lane. This will require 2 front pilots to close down the lane and intersection. STMS for this site is Ivan Bullock Phone 0272- 555723
Carlton Ave / Alma Rd. Roundabout.
This road and roundabout are nearing completion, however the road surface and sealing at the roundabout still requires building up to grade and still has a lot of cones and signs around it. Wide loads through this area should not exceed 4.5 metres. Wider loads should still use the Heads Rd, Mosston Rd alternative route.
Carlton Ave / London St Roundabout and Islands.
This contract has all but finished and should be complete by the end of this week, with no restrictions on width in place.
7 May 2010 SH25 Te Puru Bridge Restriction Continues

The width currently available across the bridge is 3.5m which is the normal lane width on our State Highways.
7 May 2010 SH29 Tauranga – Kaimai Night Works
Fulton Hogan as contractors to NZTA have advised of the potential for disruption to the transport of overdimension loads on State Highway 29 (Kaimai) between Redwood Lane at Tauriko (Tauranga City Limits) to the Summit (Boundary with Waikato).
Fulton Hogan will be completing repairs and Asphaltic Resurfacing of 4 key sections on the above network, including several Bridge Decks, between the hours of 5.00pm to 7.00am, generally Sunday Night to Friday Morning, but not limited to.
To complete these works a combination of Stop/Go (Single Lane Controls) and Lane Closures/Lane Diversions will be used, thus lanes will be reduced to 3.00m in width.
Other works are currently being completed during the day, but two way traffic will be maintained during day light hours. These works will be ongoing and weather dependant for the next 5-6 weeks minimum (longer with weather or other delays).
